Polar vs Non-polar in Gel Candles

If you have been wanting to make gel candles and want more of a scientific explanation of what polar and non-polar means. This post is for you.

 

I am not going to claim to know anything about making gel candles but having a little bit of a background in the sciences I may be able to dispel some of the mystery.

 

Polar molecules are molecules that have a charge (negative or positive) at any point of their anatomy like water. Non-polar molecules are the opposite and they tend to be that of a neutral charge like oil. These molecules will interact with themselves but not really with each other. Think of it like mixing oil and water, it will never happen.

 

If you have read up on making gel candles, they tell you to use non-polar fragrance oils

That is however, there are different soluble in different levels
